President's Message:

Those of you in attendance at our monthly meetings often will have heard Marg D speak of our Probus goal of creating the “3F’s” for our members: Fellowship, Friendship and Fun! The order of the first two words could appear to be progressive, that fellowship could lead to friendship. And I think that most would agree that friends are a treasure in our lives. Our friends provide deep emotional support, unwavering loyalty and safe space to be vulnerable, which decreases stress and lowers the risk of depression.
But what of the fellowship that we enjoy with our acquaintances? Are acquaintances somehow considered “less than” our friends? If we think about it, our acquaintances require less emotional energy, they can broaden our social network and expose us to diverse perspectives and novel opportunities. They also can provide the casual daily engagement that I mentioned in last month’s message about making “small talk”.
I would suggest that both relationship types are valuable, as they help us to build a well-rounded and sustainable social life - the very essence of why we belong to our Probus Club.
In my almost four years as a Probus member, it has been my privilege and great pleasure to make the acquaintance of so many people I otherwise never would have met. I have thoroughly enjoyed our conversations and learned so much, something I hope will continue. I also have been so fortunate to meet people who have become my dear friends. I think of my Probus membership as an investment, in people, in time and in activity, an investment that so far has paid off far beyond my expectations.
As our Probus year draws to a close, I hope you will remember 2025-26 with fondness. I hope that you too have been building and sustaining your own social lives by participating in the array of opportunities offered by our Club. You just have to read further in this very Newsletter to see what is available! I hope you have been inspired, educated and entertained by our various speakers. We will gather once again on June 16th at Highland Country Club to celebrate another successful year and many of us will enjoy the summer activities planned for us by our Out of Towners interest group.
In August, please watch for the announcements concerning upcoming elections to our Management Committee that will take place at our Annual General Meeting in September. Perhaps you will consider if you might be willing to invest some of your time and talents, helping to make our Club even more vibrant and exciting into the future.
I wish you all a safe and healthy summer and look forward to seeing you all at our first meeting of 2026-27 on Wednesday, September 16th.
Nancy H
