October 2026 Newsletter

 President-Elect Message:

Welcome everyone to our Clubs October 2026 meeting.

October is a particularly special month for all of us, as October is Probus Month. It is time for us to celebrate what Probus represents.

One of the great strengths of our Probus Club are the friendships that develop beyond our monthly meetings. Whether through outings, interest groups, coffee gatherings, travel or simply a friendly conversation.

Probus began with an idea to bring together retired, and semi retired people who may be looking for friendship, conversation, activities, and new experiences.

Here at our club, we see the benefits of Probus every time we meet. We have the opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones, hear interesting speakers, participate in activities, and outings, or simply enjoy each other’s company.

As we celebrate Probus Month, I encourage each of us to think about what Probus has brought into our lives. For many of us, it has provided friendships that may never been developed, and opportunities to try things we not have experienced on our own.

Our management team is enthusiastic , passionate, and dedicated, all of these attributes will make my position as your new President much easier. Our Past President Nancy Holmes has been a wonderful role model for me, and I will endeavor to keep our Club thriving, and looking positively to the future.

Our featured speaker for October 26 is Guillermo Rishchynski who has had an extensive career with the Government of Canada, holding positions as an Assistant Trade Commissioner. In Ottawa he served the Department as Deputy Director, Latin America, and Director Team Canada Task Force.

So as we enjoy our Thanksgiving celebrations, let us be thankful for our families, our friends, and our continued good health.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting on Wednesday 21st October.

Moira C.
President Elect

Interest Groups - Update

SILVER SCREENERS:

For its first outing, the new Silver Screeners group met at the Hyland Theatre on September 28th to view Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson in the role loosely based on Chris Hansen and the TV show To Catch a Predator. The film was rated “84% Fresh” by [movie review site] Rotten Tomatoes.

The group then moved to the Village Room at Wortley Roadhouse for lively discussion and good food. While the film received mixed reviews and was at times difficult to watch, everyone seemed to agree that Pattinson was excellent.

We look forward to meeting again at the Hyland on Monday, October 26th. If you would like to join us, the signup sheet still will be available at the General meeting.
[If you might be interested, or have other questions, please contact group leaders Susan W.  or Nancy H.]
